Volunteer Opportunity : Community Cycling Center

Volunteer with the Community Cycling Center - Help kids get bikes!

Help the nonprofit, Community Cycling Center, reach their goal of providing bikes to hundreds of children from low income families this year by cleaning and recycling donated kids' bikes. No mechanical experience needed!

Saturday, June 1st, 12:30-3:30pm, Northeast Portland

Mechanics will transform these shiny bikes and reclaimed parts into "new" bikes for kids ages 3-8, keeping useful parts from going into the landfill. By volunteering at the Community Cycling Center, your support will keep kids active, healthy, and connected with their friends, family and neighborhood.

We will be working outside of the bike shop, so please dress for the weather.

The Community Cycling Center, founded in 1994, is a non-profit that broadens access to bicycling and its benefits. Our vision is to build a vibrant community where people of all backgrounds use bicycles to stay healthy and connected.

Memorial Day Ceremony to Recognize Local WWII Veterans

Sponsored by: Health & Human Services Department, Disability, Aging & Veterans Services Division
The public is invited to a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, from 1:00-2:15 p.m., at the Veterans Plaza adjacent to the Washington County Fair Complex. The collaboration among Washington County, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will honor our nation’s brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Program highlights include recognition of Purple Heart recipients, a prisoners of war ceremony, 21-gun salute and a focus on Washington County's role in World War II. The names of the 129 WWII Killed in Action from Washington County will be read. Personal stories of local living WWII vets from the Merchant Marine, Navy, Army, Marines and Army Air Corp will also be shared.

Among the participants will be leaders from the Hillsboro VFW and American Legion, Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey and Board of Commissioners Chairman Andy Duyck. A keynote address is planned by Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici.

The Memorial Day Ceremony will take place rain or shine. Attendees may park in TriMet’s lot at the Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport MAX Station. For more information, call Washington County Disability, Aging and Veteran Services at 503-846-3060.
